TAFS SUNNYSIDE

On Campus Behavioral
Health Support

An in-school clinical and recovery support program at Pro-Vision Academy. TAFS Sunnyside is a fully donor funded program. It brings licensed mental and behavioral health care directly to teens where they are – integrated therapy, structured peer engagement, life skills building into the daily school environment.

Our goal is long-term stability, graduation, and preparation for healthy adulthood.

Stability Creates Opportunities

Students in Sunnyside navigate layered stressors

Reality makes embedded, school-based behavioral health services at Pro-Vision Academy both urgent and highly responsive to community need.

  • Economic instability
  • Trauma exposure
  • Family strain
  • Limited access to consistent, affordable behavioral health care.

TAFS Sunnyside clinicians work side-by-side with students to develop essential life skills.

Integrated Mental Health

TAFS Sunnyside delivers

  • Licensed individual and group counseling
  • Gender-specific therapeutic peer groups
  • Recovery support and trauma-informed care
  • Life-skills development and academic collaboration
  • Engagement through pro-social activities

Students experience clinical care and behavioral health support as part of their school day.

Preparing Students to Launch

TAFS Sunnyside focuses on

• Emotional regulation and conflict resolution
• Academic continuity and graduation
• Healthy peer relationships and leadership
• Future planning and workforce readiness

The outcome is readiness — for graduation, workforce entry, higher education, and responsible adulthood.

Measurable Impact

The TAFS Model has been independently validated through research partnerships with the University of Texas Health Science Center and Baylor College of Medicine.

Across TAFS Memorial and TAFS Sunnyside, students:

  • 90% High School Graduation
  • 87% Sustained Recovery Engagement
  • Improved Family Relationships

At TAFS Sunnyside, philanthropic support ensures students receive consistent, licensed clinical care within their school day.

Operating Entirely Through Philanthropic Investment

Donor support makes it possible to place licensed clinicians on campus, maintain gender-specific therapeutic groups, and move financial barriers for families.

TAFS Sunnyside is donor-funded and depends on community investment.

A fully funded TAFS Sunnyside Program makes possible free access to school-based behavioral health care in Houston’s most disadvantaged neighborhood.

This Matters for Houston

When students graduate emotionally stable and equipped with coping and leadership skills, they are more likely to stay in school, pursue employment or higher education, and become productive members of the workforce.

This reduces long-term costs associated with school dropout, unemployment, crisis care, substance use, and justice-system involvement, while strengthening families, employers, and the broader local economy.

A Program Built Through Partnership

TAFS Sunnyside is made possible through a partnership with Pro-Vision Academy, a charter school committed to educating, supporting, and empowering students in the Sunnyside community.

Together, TAFS and Pro-Vision Academy provide more than services. They create a supportive environment where students can be seen, heard, challenged, and encouraged.

This partnership reflects a shared belief: when young people have access to the right support, they can heal, grow, and move toward a stronger future.
